Locked to
goddamnphonies
( Akane was dead and once he found out, Spain knew he had to talk to Holden.
Closing the door behind him, Spain begins with his condolences, )
I'm sorry.
( For everything that's happened. It isn't what he wants to really talk about but it seemed like a better way to start than just getting straight to the questions. )

That's what you want to talk to me about, isn't it? [He looks up, earnest and intense.] I'm real popular today, especially with fans of old Fukawa.

( --Very sorry. Maybe if he had noticed why she wasn't around or if he was better at this game or something else-- this could have been avoided. And he would get to the point but that last comment, )
Especially how?

[Holden glances at the locked door before replying.]
America didn't want me to say out loud during the trial because the protector has to save her that night and he thought if the hunters knew that they'd take the chance to kill one of the special roles who wasn't under his protection. Of course then he changed his mind about her anyway. And Fukawa's chances aren't looking good considering last night he outright said he would vote for her today.

( Not England's? It really does sound like Holden is putting a lot of faith in America right now. )
England is an independent nation, you know. He can make decisions without America. Has she tried to ask him?

[He's looking at Spain with determination and confusion.]
You were there yesterday when I told everyone about her condition. Who else reacted to the news? Did England? No. America was the one who sat up and took notes.

It's true! We work together and tell each other a lot. But some of us aren't very close.
( And the laughter quickly stops, the smile disappears, and he returns to being serious-- almost uncharacteristically so. )
Holden, ( This is so hard. ) If England is the protector, then why are you concerned with wasting time on England?( He sighs.
He'd rather not waste time dancing around the subject and talking in circles. ) And I believe we're wasting time now.
What do you really know about the protector?

[Holden reluctantly becomes serious.]
I'm not supposed to know this, Spain. But it's too obvious. And... it's a real sad thing too.
England's not the protector. He's taking the goddamn fall for the real HERO to protect him from the wolves. Touko's figured that out too and that's why she's not bothering with him.

My
God.
He turns around to make sure the door is locked. Yes? Yes. Good. )
How do you know? How does she know? Who else knows?!
( The curses running through his head right now... )

[He's gotten worked up. Heavy breathing.]
I have no idea how many people know - I thought all of you nations did.
no subject
... I have to go.
( Wait. )
No, no... ( Should he clear things up first? ) Holden, listen to me.
( He doesn't even know how to start. More curses. )
You're positive she knows too? ( He doesn't even really know who she is. ) Tell me about her.
( Could she be trusted? Would she tell anyone else? )
no subject
Hunters made a perfect choice. Everyone is wary enough to maybe not wanna save her even though she's prey.
...is that good enough? I'd rather leave too...
no subject
Y-yes, of course.
... Thank you.
( And stepping aside to let him leave. )
