I have a lot of time to think these days, you know, but no one to really talk to about everything. It's easier to speak in private than it is to answer to everyone... ...I think the vast majority of people in this game are supposed to die, if not everyone. Annie has already 'won' to the extent that counts as winning, of course. I think our gamesmaster is offering the possibility of uncovering their identity as a sort of bait to taunt us - but I think they would honor it if we succeeded. Everything so far has been done according to certain Rules. If we succeed within the framework presented, they can't deny us our victory.

The other way, naturally, is to go outside the framework entirely.

If I could go back in time, I would make sure I never came here at all.

( Which isn't quit the same as saying if he could go back, he wouldn't let Clyde and Latvia die, oops. )

And if we find the mastermind, what will we do? Where does the mastermind fit in with the rules and the game? Where in the rules does it say just finding the mastermind will mean victory?

We only really know that there is one and the game is rigged in their favor.

...I never said finding them would suffice.

Destroying the queen bee of a hive renders the remaining workers useless. Obviously, I can't say I know the future, but if the mastermind is removed...

I know there are some who are examining the lists - those who are constantly immune, those who are never suspects in trial. Personally, I don't think it will be as obvious as all that. [a beat] Especially given who tops the former list.

Why wouldn't it be that obvious? I thought you were the mastermind. ( Teasing, obviously, but oh, well. ) Have you tried looking at the incentives?

What do you mean? We already know they're occasionally personalized. ...Or do you mean that someone's incentives are less compelling than the rest?

Last week, there was a victim for each one of us. ( 20 victims from back home for 20 players. ) That means everyone is playing, even our mastermind.

Perhaps one of them was a stranger; someone the mastermind didn't even know. Or maybe it's the opposite.

If it's the former, the mastermind has nothing to lose with these incentives. They would never have to act and would only have to worry about being scapegoated.

But if it's the latter... Well, that's another set of questions.

The clue was that one of the 'players' was given an advantage. That was clear from the beginning. Given that it's impossible to know who's telling the truth about the incentives barring telepathic powers, I don't know if investigation in that direction will be very useful.

I think asking why someone would play the game is important. It might not be helpful now but maybe later...
