( When America and England arrive, Spain locks the door behind them.
To be honest, he didn't really want to talk to England but given the circumstances, it seemed like a good idea to look like he was talking to him too. Leaning against the door, he doesn't say anything for a little while-- instead, glaring at England as if trying to find a way to pin this on him. Finally, he speaks to America in a controlled tone, )
You told Holden you could help Akane. ( Its hard picking a question to ask out of the several in his head, ) What did you tell him?
( And a quick glance and a silent question at England to see if he can figure out the answer before America replies-- "did you know about this, brows?" )

[Actually, it was weird. Holden seemed to know it was really him, and he has an idea why, but he doesn't share it.]
But I couldn't do it. I got mad at her yesterday and said I wouldn't help after all, but...I really would have. But something important happened and I really couldn't do it.

Because the protector didn't want to compromise someone else. Of course, he changed her mind and thought she was guilty in the end anyways. And he suggested he would vote for Fukawa today.
Fukawa who is poisoned but isn't going to waste her time asking Brows for help.
( Looking at America. )
He knows. And She does too.

[It's a lie, and an obvious one, but he doesn't know if he trusts Spain enough to tell the truth.]
Who knows who he told. Anyway, I dunno why it's your business.

He glances at America, then sighs. Then he walks out of the room. The message - to America, at least - should be clear. He'll leave the decision to him. But in a strange, never-to-be-admitted way...he does trust Spain.]

You didn't tell him on accident. He found out on--! ( Mother Mary, England, please help him from kicking America now-- And then England gets up to leave. ) Where do you think you're go--...
... Bastard.
( Crossing his arms across his chest, he exhales and inhales slowly. Give him a second to collect his thoughts again. )
He found out on his own, idiota.
And according to him it was so obvious that anyone else could find out and some else did.
Your and England's plan is ruined. You could be in danger if the wrong person found out. You could be in danger tonight.

He's come to trust England despite himself, but only because of their family connection - England is otherwise really no different, maybe even the worst of them. But the others...it's not even about Spain, personally. He just doesn't think any of the former empires are trustworthy.
Still, when England walks out, he looks a little conflicted.]
Look, that's exactly why I told Holden what I told him about Akane. As much as I wanted to help her...if the hunters were using poisoning to get me to not protect myself or England...it's not a risk I could take. But Holden wouldn't shut up and kept telling people I had a plan. It got too dangerous.

Are you still protecting Brows? Why?! How many nights have you protected him?
He claimed your role so he could protect you. Your stupid plan doesn't work if you keep protecting him and not yourself or someone else.

He's completely and totally speechless. Hes's protected England every night? It's so stupid that even Spain finds himself at a loss for words. Spain clenches his hand into a fist and begins to raise his arm only to freeze in mid-air. Lowering it very slowly and cursing under his breath. )
You idiot.
YOU IDIOT!
Do you understand your role, idota? You're the protector. You're supposed to protect the prey not just Brows.
( Cursing forever in Spanish in between his lecture. Why do I care? Why?! )
Why don't you care? Are you so selfish and stupid that you would waste your role protecting someone who doesn't deserve to be protected every night?
I can understand the day he claimed your role. I could understand protecting him more than once. But every single night?!
He claimed your role so he could protect you, not so you could waste your opportunity every night!
Why are you wasting your chance?! You've let innocent people die every night!

I...they're just humans. I don't want anyone to have to die, but they're just humans, Spain. I'm not wasting my opportunity protecting someone who absolutely has to walk out of here alive over someone who will die in a matter of decades.

We're in danger every night and day in this town and now you're in even more danger than the rest of us. You keep saying we aren't in danger. Do you know how many people suspected Lithuania?! Can you tell him he was never in danger?
Listen to yourself. We agreed that we had to protect each other for the good of our people but all you've done is protect England who isn't even in danger. You won't even protect yourself.
But wait-- if you're only willing to protect us when you know we're in danger, then tell me what sort of danger England is in right now.

You swear, you swear, no matter what, that's what we'll do?

No? You would just let us die? If that's really how it is...I don't have to explain jack shit to you.

I have met all of our people and I know they are proud and strong. If a crisis or tragedy were to happen, they would come together stronger than before an continue to live. I believe it will be the same when we do not return to them. I have faith in my people and I believe all of us should as well.
I also know that our people can be compassionate and would want to help those in need. I know mine are.
We have never had true wills of our own; our actions have always been dependent on what our people wanted. I believe my people will want me to help everyone here and so I will do as they wish.
And if I die, it will be for my people and not because of another foolish alliance.
I hope you-- and everyone else-- will realize this too before it's too late.
Now get out, hero.

Well, you can say goodbye to any chance at being protected by either of us, that's for damn sure. That's for damn sure. Why risk my own ass for someone who doesn't even think we're worth saving?
You stupid asshole. I hate what's happening here. But if you told me to sacrifice fourty of my own people, my troops, to save England's life, or you, or any of us, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Would and have.
I wish it wasn't that way! I really do, I wish I could just abandon my responsibilities and we could just be ordinary folks and do whatever we want. But it's not fucking like that.

( Managing the most passive aggressive grin to say that and placing a hand on the door's lock. )
We only have two responsibilities here, America: Live and help each other.
You've already abandoned the latter. Keep protecting England and see what good it does for everyone but him.
( And he opens the door, stepping aside to let America go. )
